Robyn Malcolm cements her "Green Credentials"
I guess this is what happens when you join the Green Party. You whine and moan about issues, pretending to know more than others despite being an actor.. not a scientist.Next comes the bludging....and this truely takes the cake:
The American remake of Outrageous Fortune, which has been renamed Scoundrels, premiered in the United States on Sunday.
The US deal is a coup for Kiwi producer South Pacific Pictures.
However, the original Cheryl West, Ashburton native Robyn Malcolm, has spoken out about the fact the cast will not see a cent of the US windfall.
"We are not protected when these kinds of business deals are made," she said.
"It does mean that even though we have all moved onto other projects, this kind of international business deal, which is new to New Zealand, means that we are connected to that show for a lot longer, and other countries look after their actors.
Are you acting in the American remake Robyn? No you're not. Why do you want to have a piece of somebody elses pie? The deal is simple, the writers or whoever owns the rights to this show sold it to another studio where different actors will make it their way. Why should Kiwi actors get a penny of the work of others?
She's obviously drunk too much dihydrogen monoxide....
Story here, "No Fortune made here..."

You'd think some people would be happy that they get work in their chosen field. Not if they're a lefty though, that's not good enough.
So Robyn, you applied for the job, won the audition, and entered into a contract. I'm betting the conditions of the contract haven't been breached, so stop your whining.
And let's all hope future employers think twice about your politics.
Why shouldn't they? Your blanket statement is a tad myopic, considering you'd be an advocate of individual's rights, which I deduce from your archives. If actors secure a good contract allowing for royalytes then so be it. If Robyn didn't have a contract then she has no claim, but any good agent would look to tie in royalties where possible. It's not called the free market for nothing. Anything goes. There's no business like blog business.
Oh Anon! It's abundantly clear from reading the article that Robyn has no such contract to receive such monies if the show goes overseas.
She's found out how much her American equivalent is being paid and she’s gutted, as she has a warped perspective (like many Kiwis) that the NZ show is superior to the American version.
She’s thinking that if she moans a little and has her hand out that somebody will feel sorry for her and throw her a few crumbs out of sympathy. Not bloody likely Robyn, sounds to me like she'd be eaten alive in the US.
It's easy for her to exploit a general anti American attitude that Kiwis have in order to whine a little more and impress her Greenie friends.
I bet the American actor playing her role is being paid brilliantly, the more I think about it. Maybe Robyn should be pondering why such money is available - the free market is alive and well, and Robyn is on the wrong side :)
I suppose she will be looking for some kind of political intervention, a private memebrs bill to make it compulsory to pay actors royalties on roles they had a hand in creating.
Remember when Labour tried to legislate for royalties to accrue to visual artists with ongoing sales of their work? I opposed it because, one, I am not greedy like Malcolm and two, it means that potential selling prices may damage the re-sale market.
Lindsay. You suppose too much. This blog supposes too much... failing to deal in facts... That is ok though as it is just opinion. Similar to daydreaming. But that is an artists prerogative.. too create and imagine. I'm not saying she should get what she is moaning for... but that the idea of writing such a scenario into a contract is entirely appropriate if the parties agree. Potential re-selling prices damage the market?? Nonsense. The market will decide. And greed has nothing to do with it. They are YOUR words. Ironic that you apply them to a capitalist concept. Robyn's perception of what she is worth may be higher than what your perception of your self worth is. She is akin to ACT on that front. Self worth in monetary terms.
Anon, you're arguing for the sake of it - just like you did last week on the apartheid issue with BB. You don't have a point at all - which makes it difficult to ascertain what, if anything, you have to say.
Arguing? yes! No point? Exactly! Now you are starting to understand the essence of opinion-blogging! My work is nearly done.
I think Robyn is brilliant as Cheryl West.
The problems arise when she is not talking from a script written by smart intelligent writers but opens her mouth and puts her loony watermelon beliefs out there for the public.
Exactly Lucy, Robyn actually isn't a bad actress... but full credit to the writers for giving her a role she can pull off.
Anon - you continue to make no sense. Now at least it confirms that you staying anonymous is best for your credibility.
Kate Winslet is to play the lead in a remake of Mildred Pierce.
Does this mean that royalties should be paid to the family of Joan Crawford who play the original role so brilliantly?
How about McBeth, King Lear etc do we find the orginal actors and pay their families royalties to? How do we judge who bought the best to the role?
Robyn is a brilliant example of the stupid assumption 'if they are actors their IQ points must increase. Well guess what people they dont.
Stop it Lucy, you are bringing waaaay too much commonsense in there for Anon to handle.
